Priscilla Star Diaz, aka “P-STAR”, is a 13 year old rising star from Harlem who is very much aware of the epidemic of childhood obesity in this country. P-STAR believes it is time for the obesity rate to drop among the youth in our communities, given that approximately nine million kids are affected. This number amounts to 15 percent of American children, ages 6 to 11 years of age, who are considerably overweight. This number has tripled in the past 30 years and the rates for obesity are greater for ethnic minority children. Over 25 percent of Black and Hispanic children are overweight.
With these alarming statistics, P-Star wanted to make an exercise DVD for kids created by a kid. P-STAR exclaimed, “I just want kids to have fun working out to my music, it’s healthy and fun at the same time…that’s what us kids enjoy most, having fun.” The debut DVD, “P-Star Workout DVD Exercise Your Body and Mind Volume I,” includes and represents youth across the world.
Throughout the DVD, P-STAR recites multiplication, numbers and alphabets. The DVD even has a segment where children can enjoy working out with their parents or older siblings and gives tips on how important it is to drink water and eat green vegetables. In addition to P-STAR, the DVD features two established recording artists, Young B (“Chicken Noodle Soup”) and Island/Def Jam artist Megan Rochell.
P-STAR, a young innovative artist, is making moves across the board not only with the release of her new work-out DVD but also with her debut album, “Welcome To My Show,” which will be released in the Spring of 2008. P- STAR is the new face of the fast growing hit “Teen Diaries TV” online (http://www.teendiaries.com). She can also be found on the website “Kidzbop” (http://www.kidzbop.com).
Named a “young feminist phenomenon,” P-STAR is a pre-teen rap superstar that has been sweeping the streets of NY with her dynamic flow, charm and beauty. She has been rhyming with the city’s best for four years and receiving much respect for it. Her flow is aggressive, her confidence is high, and she is prepared to “spit-fire” (as she puts it), anywhere, anytime.
